Handicap League Match v Collingtree [home] / 126/05/07
After 5 of the 6 groups had come in Team Pytchley were 9 -12 down but a sterling performance by Mark Brimley [17] and debutant Troy Anderson [28] - the winner of last years Most Enthusiastic Player - winning 5 up meant that PGL eventually won 14 to 12.

Team: Craig Savage [7] and Jim Canning [9] lost 7 down, Alan Redmond [10] and Matt Jeffrey [12] all square, Don Macleod [13] and Eddie Leaf [14] 4 up, Chris Denton [15] and David Tipton [15] 5 down, Mark Langley [16] and Nick Althorpe [16] 5 up and Mark Brimley [17] and Troy Anderson [27] 5 up.

Results: 1st - Chris Denton [15] net 66 on countback from 2nd - Troy Anderson [27] net 66, 3rd - once again on countback - Peter Kirk [17] won over David Tipton [15] both with net 69 - There were no two's recorded and no changes to any handicaps

Bright and breezy, hard fast greens - no change there !
CSS - Men - 69, CSS - Ladies - 66

Results: 1st Viv Lewis [34] net 66, 2nd John Holman [28] net 68 and 3rd on countback Julia Hall [36] net 69 beat Jim Green [24] net 69. There was only one two recorded and this was by Tim Meeks on the par 3 hole 16 - famously the course's most difficult hole! John Holman's handicap was cut from 28 to 27

Scratch League match v St Andrews [home] / 28/04/07
Result : Pytchley won 5-3

Unfortunately one of the team had to drop out shortly before the match and having scraped the barrel dry the Club Secretary had to play - this was certainly a worry for all concerned!

Pytchley team - Stuart Philp [6] won 2 up, Richard Wright [6] won 1 up, Justin Vosper [7] won 3 & 2 (this was Justins' 9th straight win in scratch league matches), Craig Savage [7] lost 5 & 3, Rob Forbes [8] lost 5 & 4, Jim Canning [9] halved, Matt Jeffrey [12] won 6 & 5 and Eddie Leaf [14] halved.

Results : 1st - Mark Brimley [17] 36 points, 2nd - Neil Jacobs [18] 33 points, 3rd - Jim Canning [9] 31 points. The following 2's were recorded - James Pickard with an eagle par 4 hole 13 and Mark Brimley on par 3 hole 14. Despite the eagle James Pickard's handicap has changed from 27 to 28

Conditions : Bright and sunny
Results : 1st - William Welsh [24] 40 points, 2nd - Troy Anderson [28] 37 points, 3rd - Colin Goddard [21] 37 points on countback. There were no 2's recorded. There were the following handicap changes - Troy Anderson from 28 to 27, Colin Goddard from 21 to 20 and William Welsh from 24 to 22

Conditions : Very hot and very hard greens
Results : [A Team first] Richard Wright and Justin Vosper beat David Tipton and Will Heywood 2up, Craig Savage and Jim Canning beat Eddie Leaf and Pete Coleman 1up, Matt Jeffrey and Ian Wilson lost 2 down to Mark Brimley and John Coles, Josh Parker and Gary Conagahan won 3 up against Troy Anderson. - A Team won 3 up

Murphy's Law in Weekend Medal! / 07-08/04/07
Conditions - Bright sunshine, hard fast greens.
Standard Scratch Score - 65.

Weekend Medal Results: 1st - Derek Murphy [17] net 63, 2nd - David Tipton [15] net 65 and 3rd - Jack Myrick [20] net 66 - Matt Jeffrey and Mark Brimley each won £30.00 on the 2's pot - Handicap changes - Mike Charter from 9 to 10, Eddie Leaf from 13 to 14, Derek Murphy from 17 to 16 and Alistair Nelson from 21 to 22.

Although many people played well over the two medals, a lot more were struggling with a longer course off the white tees (a change from the short winter tees) and the fact that the greens had hardened up considerably over the last week.

Customer Notice - Driving Range Ball Prices / 26/02/07
As from 1ST MARCH 2007, there will be a PRICE INCREASE for all RANGE BALLS. This will be the first price increase since the Driving Range was opened in 1995!

There will now be THREE options to choose from :

• 1. £3:00 = Small basket of balls (approx 50 balls). One drop.
• 2. £4:00 = Large basket of balls (approx 90 balls). Two drops.
• 3. DIGICARD SYSTEM.
  £20:00 = 10 credits to the digicard, each credit will issue 45 balls (approx). Buy a £20 digicard and get 1 credit (45 balls) absolutely FREE!!

3rd Winter League Qualifier, 9 hole competition / 13-14/01/07
Despite the appalling weather conditions 18 players [brave souls] entered for the 3rd of 4 Winter League qualifying events. The results were as follows - 1st Ben Giles [again] with 24 points, 2nd Derek Murphy with 23 points and 3rd [on countback] Nick Althorpe with 23 points - As soon as the opportunity arises the Secretary will be closely examining some of our members' handicaps - out of the 18 people entered only 2 failed to reach 18 points!

The 4th Winter League Qualifier will be played on 10/11 February 2007

Weekday Pairs Knockout Final -18 hole competition / 7/12/06
Result: Despite torrential rain and high winds the contestants bravely carried on with the match which ended with Richard Quinney and Judy Burdett winning 3 and 1 over Jim Ranaghan and Jane Ashby.

Winter League Qualifier - 9 hole competition / 9-10/12/06
Results: 1st Gary Rodwell [22] 21 points, 2nd Nick Althorpe [18] 21 points and 3rd Brian Mellon [25] 21 points - all three had the same amount of points and the result was decided on count-back - There were no 2's recorded - The 3rd Qualifier will be held on the weekend of 13/14 January 2007.

Wedge-Off-The-Tee 9 Hole Competition / 18-19/11/06
Results: 1st Robin Sumpter [24] with net 30 (4 under par), 2nd Richard Wright [7] net 32 and 3rd Brian Mellon [26] net 33 - This competition obviously makes the course longer especially in the windy conditions however Richard Wright and Dave Walters both managed to birdie par 3 5th hole and Eddie Leaf birdied the par 4 4th hole - pitching wedge / pitching, wedge / putt - simple!

Richard has the Wright Stuff! / 18-19/11/06
9 hole competition - 1 of 4 Winter League Qualifiers - best two scores to count - first 8 players go through to Quarter Finals. Results - 1st Richard Wright [7] with an amazing 23 points, 2nd Matt Jeffrey [14] with 22 points and 3rd Jack Myrick with 20 points - 2's Pot - Richard Wright and Gary Rodwell. Average score for the 20 players who handed in a card was 17 points - perhaps the course is getting easier !

Winter Tee in Operation from Monday 20th November / 15/11/06
As from Monday 20th November 2006 (Depending on weather conditions) winter tees will be in operation. This will coincide with a trolley ban unless trolleys are fitted with hedgehog attachments.

Results: 1st Rob Essam [14] net 30, 2nd (on countback) Troy Anderson [28] net 30 and 3rd Tom Houghton [7] net 33 - It makes one wonder why we all carry so many clubs about when 3 clubs (including a putter) seem to do the job so well ! Put another way - the average score for all those that entered the competition was net 1 under par and the worst score recorded was 2 net over par !

Results: 1st Lesley Baden [31] net 66, 2nd Nigel Chaplin [14] net 69 and 3rd Ian Wilson [13] net 71 - There were no 2's recorded. Handicap changes - Lesley Baden from 31 to 30 NB over the last 5 months Lesley's consistent play in competitions has seen her handicap drop from 35 to 30 - Well done Lesley!

Battle of Willis as Sam takes home the Weekend Medal / 04-05/11/06
Results: 1st - Sam Willis [34] net 67, 2nd - Peter Kirk [17] net 69, 3rd - Lindi Blissett [30] net 71 - There were no changes to handicaps - Peter Kirk won the 2's Pot with a 2 on par 3 Hole 14.

After a long running competition Len Norris beat John Akers in the Final - the Semi-finalists were Judy Burdett v Len Norris and Derek Turner v John Akers

Mens Summer Singles Matchplay
In the Final Don Macleod beat Matt Jeffrey 3 & 2 after a close game that was eventually won on the 17th - the Semi-finalists were Don Macleod v Mark Brimley and Matt Jeffrey v Josh Parker
