A Happy New Year to all and what a year it has been! Once again we will take a look back with fond memories - a year of huge events, memorable moments and some ridiculously out of season weather! 2011 proved to be a busy one, both on and off the course. We hosted QuizNights, Pancake Day, A Right Royal Wedding, began the building work for our new extension, Golf Competitions and Championships, internal work for our extension, the busiest Charity Day on record, some ridiculous winter weather, 15 seconds of fame on TV, entered the final phase of building our extension, a Pie Week and a very Merry Christmas! So just a few bits and pieces to carry out!
A big Thank You to everyone who has supported us through the year, in all forms - from giving to charity to simply giving up trying to have a conversation during noisy building work and then carrying on as normal anyway! You've all been very good!
For the year ahead our eyes are drawn to April and the Grand Opening of our new Function Room, the new Putting Green and Practice area. Fingers and toes are all crossed for a good Spring and the final push for the function room - time for a party!
Golf is looking good for the new season, halfway through the current Winter League at the moment - and we are also seeing quite a few juniors getting into golf which is just swell! The course is being prepped and looked after by our grand greenkeepers so don't forget to rake bunkers and repair your divots!!!!
In short, we are looking forward to another fantastic year so join us on the journey in making PGL better and better.
November
Just a quick one this month so far, we were on the telly! We have had our 15 minutes, well, seconds really, of fame! Here is a picture featuring Robert Bett, Mick Taylor and friends playing golf. It was a short spot to back up the weather and a very nice plug we thought! Thanks to the guys for being good sports!
October
Well say hello to Winter because it is definitely here! Get the thermals and waterproofs out its going to be a cold one! Fear not however, we have a new warming Winter Menu courtesy of Karen, which will include Lasagne, Shepherd's Pie, Soup and more so keep your eyes on the Specials Board for some winter comforts!
Golfwise the Winter League has kicked off with a super turnout for the first Stableford (see Competitions Page for results), and the course is playing very well - fast greens and hard fairways proving to be a challenge for our golfers, it seems to be weathering well. With the nights drawing in the focus has turned to the range for practice - as the clocks turn back so will our closing times in the evenings - Monday to Wednesday - 8 o clock, Thursday & Friday - 9 o clock and 6 o clock at the weekends. Please remember the last bucket of balls on the range will be half an hour before closing times.
Now, to the extension! We are very happy to say the building work went extremely well, the next project in focus is the new reception area that is currently being measured up and built. This will be a dedicated golf reception seperate to the Bar, in a wonderful style which we cant wait to show off! In regards to the new function room, we are planning for it to open in the Spring alongside the new Putting Green and Practice Area which will include a bigger, redressed Chipping Green, as well as a fantastic room for a party and more! Ensure to keep checking the website as it will be updated with each new development!
As for everything else, wrap up, keep warm - and HAPPY HALLOWEEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August/September
What a fantastic end to the Summer Season of Golf! We have had a very busy couple of months this season, with some interesting weather for the summer it seems to have finally arrived! So what's really been going on?!
Well, to begin with - our biggest event of the year so far - Charity Day; this year our chosen charity was Motor Neurone Disease. Our theme was Dressed to the Nines! We had everybody dressed up, wearing Trilbys, Plus Fours, even a 40s style dress! (And it wasnt on a woman!) An absolute cracker of day we broke records all over! This year was our most successful Charity Day to date, we broke the record for turnout - with a whopping 70 people competing! Leading up to the day we had trouble trying to find a format to fit everybody in and even had to close entry because there were so many. But we managed it! All 70 players managed to compete and all just about got back in time during daylight hours!
The format was an 18 hole Texas Scramble competition, with an interval in between where players were served a Ploughman's Lunch. At the end we managed to fit everyone in the bar, where there was Karen's Chilli on offer as well as hot dogs. An electric atmosphere followed whilst Will Heyward and E-J worked out the scores, and it all came down to 0.1 difference! The winning team consisted of Miles Clarke, Suzanne Hope, Will Heyward and his dad who managed to just beat Richard Wright, Troy Anderson, (our very own greenkeeper) Mark Panter and Paul Lewis. In a close third we had Spanners Group which included friends Mark, Danny and Nick. The scores (in order) were 51.4, 51.5 and 52!! The closest win yet by far! We would also like to congratulate the Darnells who came a very close 4th place and had a young golfer amongst their team who played very well.
There was certainly a wide range of people this year! Best dressed man went to Paul of the White Group - a fantastic pair of plus fours and dickie bow to boot! Best Dressed Woman went to Suzanne Hope our Ladies Captain who really fitted the bill, looking very chic in black and a dapper trilby - a well deserved win! Another award went to a very daring man, Mr Lee Proctor of the Matthews Group! He really did go all out, wig, dress, bra full of tees and all sorts - he had to win a prize simply for the lipstick! He definitely turned heads.
For photos - we have a display in the lobby, if you would like a copy for your team just ask in the bar we will be able to sort it out!
Charity wise we also broke records, on the day we raised a whopping £512.31!!!! Thanks to the generosity of everyone and having such a great turnout it was our best day yet.
In donations from the Green Fees - £140
In forfeits - £68.31
From the Raffle - £239
From other donations - £65
TOTAL - £512.31
So in total for this year we have raised for Motor Neurone Disease £1,535.39!
Here's how we did it:
Winter League Competitions - £278
Mixed Open Raffle - £173
Sale of Christmas Cake - £25
Quiznight Donations - £65
Sale of donated clubs etc - £76
Sale of John Sirrell's painting + donation - £205
Sale of Lake balls - £40.75
Tin Collection - £160.33
A big thank you goes out to all who donated and participated in these Charity events, Well done!!!! Thank You to all the staff who helped, we even had Andy return for his own cameo shift and didn't stop all day - they all worked very hard! We look forward to next years where things might just be a little different, but every bit as good! Bloomin Marvellous.
July
Well, its certainly been a noisy one! The building work is going full steam ahead and we are ahead of schedule! July saw some interesting weather but we have been keeping very busy! Preparations have been made for the kitchen closure in August - we will continue to produce our finest baps from Karen and BBQ from EJ over the weekends (if the weather holds out!). The food will be limited but fresh filled rolls/baguettes will be made daily and we will be serving a new continental breakfast!
The Putting Green is coming along nicely and is on schedule to be seeded in August - the rain is superb for getting the ground ready! The Chipping Green is also being expanded to match the excellent facilities.
We would once again like to Thank you for your patience and apologise for the disruption the extension has been! Its almost finished so the noise will cease eventually. We look forward to the Ladies & Seniors Championship, Mens Championships and of course CHARITY DAY! Set to be a big one this year, we are hosting a Trilby Trophy so sign up in the lobby now, and don your finest attire. Best Dressed will be winning a dapper prize!
June
Fantastic news for British Golf this month following the extraordinary win at the US OPEN by Rory Mcllroy - Congratulations from PGL!
June has seen a real buzz when it comes to our competitions - results of which can be found on our Competitions Page. Congratulations to all - fantastic turnout! The course is continuing to play extremely well, from what our golfers tell us. The bunkers have had a lot of attention paid to them and will shortly recieve 20-30 tonnes of bunker sand to improve them. For up to date details of the course please see our Course Page, with a commentary from our Head Greenkeeper, Mark Panter.
The building work is not only looking superb but is also ahead of schedule! The roof is now on, and we are proud to announce that we will be installing 18 Solar Panels and a state of the art Heat Pump - this will keep you all toasty warm during the Winter and nice & cool during the Summer! This device is one of the best available on the market that is known to be ecologically and environmentally sound. Marvellous. We would like to emphasise that all our contractors connected with this build are local. A fact we are quite proud of!
July has started off beautifully weatherwise, the long awaited rain arrived and continues to keep the course green! Looking forward to the start of the Summer Holidays and perfect golfing weather!
May
May has been another exceptionally dry month once again, and for all the golfers in the know - we could really use some rain for those greens to stay green! Its not often you hear us say that!
Due to Bank Holidays in April, the competitions were put on hold but are now back in full force - with many entries competing! Good luck to all!
Now for the main event - the building work started in earnest at the beginning of this month, and is racing along beautifully. We are now up to roof height with an Exceptionally large terrace!! We are very pleased with the progress, and we are on schedule to finish at the beginning of September (as long as it rains at night and not during work hours!).
The builders will be moving indoors very shortly, refurbishing the bar and creating a dedicated reception area - so we would like to apologise for the disturbance - because there definately will be much of it!
Now onto the seriousness of the Putting Green, we are discussing the whereabouts of its new place, once this has been decided-work will start almost immediately! Once again, we apologise for the loss of the original putting green but fear not - the next one will be brilliant!
Lets hope the weather holds out!
April
What an absolutely wonderful month this has been! It has been a gloriously hot and sunny month bringing all you golfers out of the woodwork. Kicking off this fantastic month was Charl Schwartzel winning the prized Masters Tournament and what a game it was!
This Easter has been one of the hottest and driest we have had for many a year and preparing us for the summer months ahead. It has been good to see so many new faces and of course the old retrobates!
One of our most memorable and successful events we've hosted here at PGL has been our Right Royal Wedding. What a fabulous day made special by the top hat and tails worn by His Lordship Shem...or was it Albert Steptoe!?
William and Kate stayed long enough at PGL for a photo opportunity with
our Guests before going off to greet the rest of their party at Buck House.
Unfortunately for two of our lovely ladies their dream of becoming princesses was over, and wore these shirts to express their emotions... Wills & Kate didn't seem to mind!
Before the happy couple left, they made sure to Thank everyone for attending The Pytchley Golf Lodge and making it a very memorable day for them!
March
March has arrived, the weather seems to be improving - Pancake Day has been beautiful!
Competitions are extremely popular, but to those entering remember to
pay your memberships! Only £45 for the entire year and allows you to
play in competitions and give you your EGU handicap - ruddy marvellous!
Looking forward to the start of the Summer Competitions, bringing
back the 18-hole rounds again. Quite enjoyable once the sun comes out!
Don't forget quiznight up above, lots of events happening this year -
Royal Wedding, Championship's, Throwaway Golf ...endless amounts of fun!
So keep playing and lets hope for more sun!
BUSKING FOR COMIC RELIEF!!!!
Nick Tarry brought his guitar and harmonica to the Golf Lodge for a busking session.
Over £25 was raised, all of which has been sent to Comic Relief
Thanks to everyone who supported Nick and threw money into his hat!
Watch out for the future as he will be returning to busk throughout the year, and not just at Pytchley Golf Lodge.
If you see him - get a picture and let us know!
ITS STARTING!!!
Great news!!!
We are delighted to announce that the building work for our fabulous new extension will begin in Early May!
We have chosen a local builder and very much look forward to exciting times ahead!
Unfortunately, the putting green will disappear temporarily - but fear not! There will be another one built to replace it completely, however during this time the practice area will be closed to the general public.
February
Well, January came and went in a flash and now we are into the shortest month! Luckily we have missed the snow so hopefully we won't have a repeat of last year's snowfall again! The Greenkeeper's are ahead of themselves, with the course looking and playing fantastically, particularly for this time of year. Thankyou to those who have paid compliment to it!
Golfwise, scores on the board are proving the Winter League is as popular as ever with many of you entering the competitions - very brave considering the temperatures! Results can be found on the Noticeboard or on the Competitions page found above. Keep it up and good luck to all!
We would also like to congratulate Roger Irwin on winning The White Group's Quarterly Competition! A stirling effort and a wonderful shield!
Events held were Quiznight in January and a Karaoke night in Februrary - both of which went very well! We had crooners and warblers, tributes to Frank Sinatra & Abba which were interesting at best - but all in all a brilliant night, you simply cannot beat people's enthusiasm.
In order of appearance L-R : Julia, Andie, Vic,Hannah, Maria, Ollie's Dad, Poof, Judif, Nick, Ollie's bottom, Mikey and Greenkeeper Mark who was also a DJ Extraordinnaire!
We would also like to thank Mark for his spectacular DJ skills, somehow he managed to get pretty much everyone apart from the bar staff to sing, which was no mean feat! So well done to all.
Looking forward to another Quiznight in March - usually held on the last Thursday of the month.
Happy New Year to all!!!
Welcome to the start of our 2011 News Pages; a distinctly individual insight into the world of The Pytchley Golf Lodge. Filled with information on whats going on, events, happenings and even some gossip - you will find everything you need to know in these 'articles.
A look back to 2010 (all archived below) we have had a fantastic year. From ridiculous dressage on our charity day to turning the range into a ski slope (more on that to come!), we have had numerous stories written in the local newspaper about us, we have applied for planning permission for a fantastic extension (again, more to come) and we have started to create new traditions - Quiznights, Karaoke, Real Ale Loving, holding our own versions of Golf Competitions - its been brilliant and we look forward to much more of the same for this year!
As you all may know, thanks to the wonders of British Weather, we have had to close the course for quite a while due to the neverending battering of snow that we recieved, well, at least the 3 inches that covered the course disallowing play! Luckily, we didn't have to endure the same amounts of snow that had fallen on the other parts of the country, bringing it to near standstill! So we stayed open, soldiering forth through the bitter cold, dark days and kept the bar and range going. After deciding not to feel sorry for ourselves, we instead embraced the snow and rather than let it stop us having fun of any kind - we turned the range into a ski slope! Yes our members of staff geared up, donned many thermal layers and took to their skis and snowboards. With the use of our trusty gator, usually used for driving around the course, and a bit of rope, these boys mananged to make light of the situation. Both Customers and other staff members stood out on the range watching the whole fiasco and what a day it was! The Evening Telegraph even decided what a good story it would make, and so the lady came down to us, hopped on and photographed their performance!
Now, although the course did have to close, we still had dedicated players coming up, so for the week of the 14th, 15th & 16th December, they were able to book for Christmas DInner. Each day was different - from 4 to 23 diners! Everybody supported everybody here with all hands on deck from the staff, and it went brilliantly. Clean plates all round! We were also able to host another Quiznight in time for Christmas! On Christmas Eve Eve, 23rd December it was touch and go whether the snow would affect the turnout on the night, but yet again our customers came up trumps! We had another amazing turnout and lots of banter in the process with Nick Tarry and William Shemilt hosting as Quizmasters. Food was provided by E-J who gave out home-made mince pies and honey roasted pigs in blankets! She also cooked for everyone who wanted their tea - Karen's home-made chilli which went down exceptionally well. So thanks to everyone who turned up, you are troopers!
For the final event, catch up, new notices we may have to share - we take you to our planning application.......
A successful result! Not only were we approved but the project is viewed as a positive addition to the area. So its full steam ahead from now onwards, PGL is on the up and up! With building work to start in the Spring, we apologise now for the chaos that will naturally arise from taking on such a great project. What a way to start a year! Expect changes not just of the building variety - but with everything, PGL is growing and evolving and after turning 10 last year we are ready for change. So Happy New Year to all, we look forward to a busy year and some of that seriously needed sunny weather! We will keep you all updated here or just ask in the bar! For details on competitions etc see the appropriate pages, check our gallery for new photos or get on our facebook! Raise your glass, hold on to your seats and join us in this adventure - its sure going to be an exciting year.
YEAR 2010 of Pytchley Golf Lodge
Pytchley Golf Lodge Quiz Night!
It's safe to say that this was a great success! With a massive turnout and about 50 players, we filled the bar with competitors - both the golfers and non-golfers alike!
With a selection of great food including Steak & Guinness Pie and Cheese Twists with Honey & Mustard sausages (all home-made) we made sure to fill the bellies of all who came!
1st, 2nd & 3rd Prize consisted of £35, £10 Marks & Spencer voucher and a giant box of Celebrations - well deserved to our winning teams! Congratulations to all, it was a very close call!!
We are looking forward to another one soon, either before or after Christmas - its all dependent on the Great British Weather really! Thanks to everyone who came and bring on the brains for next time!!!
MOVEMBER MOUSTACHINATORS
The Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember. Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men's health by growing a moustache.
The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean shaven and then grow a moustache for an ENTIRE MONTH.
The moustache becomes the ribbon for men's health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.
THE MOUSTACHINATORS
Our very own boys; Michael Shemilt, Will Shemilt, Richard Shemilt (Oh yes), Oliver Deller, Richard Tarry and Nick Tarry will be attempting to grow their own Mighty Moustaches for the entire month! Yes, these boys will become men...ish.
We would like YOU to sponsor these boys while they change their faces! Donations can be made either in the Bar or in fact, online! Copy & Paste the link below and you will be directed to their Mospace Team Page. Here you will be able to find out all you need to know about the cause and donate to our boys!
Get involved and watch the hilarity of how simply growing a moustache can completely change their face - its going to be Mighty.

Big plans, Big Plans!!
Big News for Big Plans! Pytchley Golf Lodge has put in an application to extend the Bar, Kitchen, add a new Function Room and change the current Bar area.
Basically, as you walk into the bar now, you see the golf till and bar seperately, instead when you walk in there will be a dedicated reception area immediately to your right for all of your golfing needs. In front of you, instead of seeing the bar it will be gone! Moved aside to where the golf till used to be, and will extend round into the new function room which will be added alongside where the fire escape door is. The current bar space will be made bigger and there will be more seating for hungry golfers.
Now, as well as a function room our kitchen and bar storage area will double in size to cater for the ever increasing amount of customers we are getting. There will also be a terrace and a fancy decorated outside! 'Alas, for our putting green, where shall it go?' we hear you say; not to worry, we will be moving the putting green because the new extension is going to take it out so if you would like us to put it anywhere particular, keep it to yourself we don't want to know.
Not really! Of course we want our customer's input, so if you would like it either further along opposite the chipping green or up near the car park then let us know.
Our function room will be able to cater for birthdays, funerals, parties, conferences, teaching, training courses and pretty much anything you can think of. It will hold up to 70 people and have the option to have music, dancing, a clear floor, a layout for a sit down meal, a dancefloor, a projector for slideshows/presentations, plenty of light with windows to match the current bar - loads!
Its quite difficult to describe something so big, you really need to see it - so we've found something quite clever. You can actually follow planning applications online:
Go to this link and you will see all the information surrounding the plans; we will also be putting the plans up in the bar for all to see, so come and have a gander because its really quite good.
Pytchley Golf Lodge Ryder Cup
This year Pytchley Golf Lodge started its Annual Team Match Play Tournament and what a better time of year to start it than alongside The Ryder Cup!
The competition consisted of two randomly picked teams playing 18 holes over two days. Much like the Ryder Cup we had Match Play, Blues vs Reds, the sinking feeling of possibly cancelling due to the weather, the celebratory whoops of continuing play and a great atmosphere that only competiting against friends can bring...
Our two teams battled it out over the weekend, playing 18 holes both days.Starting bright and early on Saturday, the weekend looked promising with a beautiful sunny morning.
However, on the second day they were to do more than battle against each other. The ever reliant British weather came through once again to challenge our competitors. Sunday proved be a tough day for more than just those with a slight hangover. With torrential rain and thrashing winds causing chaos on the course, our golfers were committed to completing the competition! Although there were a few who were beaten by it, most of the team players fought it out until the bitter end.
Coming into the bar when the competition was over you might have thought the atmosphere could be tense between the winning and losing teams - but the comradery between them was wonderful to watch and the banter was fruitful.
The winning team were the Reds, captained by
Mr William Heyward the randomly drawn team proved to be the stronger opponents and after taking a lead on the first day continued this through the second day which lead them to a solid victory.12 matches to 8!
For the Blues, captained by Mr Miles Edward Norton Clarke, a good hand was drawn for their team, alas, a win was not on the cards - but they fought constantly and bravely to catch up and close the gap on Sunday against the Reds. A valient effort was shown!
All in all despite the weather, it was a fantastic weekend; this competition brought together all types of golfers and brought out some fighting spirit they didn't even know they had themselves!
It will be held every year from now on, and if you come into the bar you will see the spectacular Ironside Salver - a Silver Plate for the winning Team proudly displayed for all to see. For anyone interested in playing next year - just ask in the bar, come and get involved!
For more photos see our Facebook Page!
Alphabetti Spaghetti Charity Extravaganza!
What a day! Our annual Charity Day event was an absolute success all round!
Every year we put a day aside to dress in ridiculous clothes and play golf for Charity! This year our chosen charity was Kettering General Hospital's Children's Ward, and throughout the year we have been raising money through the sales of cakes, clubs, raffles and even art!
This year we have raised a grand and whopping total of £2364.19!!!!
Absolutely brilliant, it was the best Charity Day we've had so far! The theme for this year was Alphabetti Spaghetti - players were split into teams of 3/4 and were assigned a letter of the alphabet (chosen at random of course). We had cats, superheros, soldiers, clowns, hippies, monks, pirates and teenage mutant ninja turtles to name a few! The turnout was Fantastic and we had the most players competing that we've ever had before! An 18-hole competition was held and the winning team were Team W - Kev Tilley, Colleen Zamoida & Richard Wright with a net score of 57.9 and a gross of 64! Very well done! (And for those curious Team W consisted of a witch, Wonderwoman and a giant Whoopie Cushion) !
A grand effort was made by both players and staff - winning the best dressed for the men was Nobby Wilson as Charlie Chaplin (cane included) and our very own E-J Brighton as The Nutcracker! (Outfit worn from 7 in the morning and included a visit to Tescos no less!!) Prizes were also awarded for the Best Legs on the course - for the men this went to Leon Hines (dressed as a woman but no less a man!) and for the women we had Colleen Zamoida who was Wonderwoman and wearing Fantastic bo
ots!
We changed things up a little this year and stayed open a little (a lot) later, changed the food around a bit (no limp sandwiches in sight but a buffet fit for kings) and had a brilliant raffle! All in all we had the best Charity Day Ever in the history of PGL and we are very proud. A HUGE thankyou to both staff and all who attended and made this day as good as it was. Pictures to come soon, they are worth the wait we can promise!
ALSO - Keep your eyes peeled in the papers we might just have a mention...!
So, down to the nitty gritty - how much have we raised altogether and how did we do it:
Charity competitions, sales of donated clubs & lake balls £1276
Sale of Christmas Cakes £100
John Sirrels Art Exhibition £352
Ladies Open Raffle £192
Ladies Open Putting Green Competition £28
Donations from Green Fees on Charity Day Match £76
Charity Day Raffle £262
Forfeits, Fines etc £78.10
Grand Total £2364.10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We raised almost £1000 more than last year!!!! A damn fine effort we say!!!
So once again, a big thankyou to everyone who took part - all thats left is to think of something to top this next year......all ideas welcome!!!!!
Also - a wave goodbye to Dan and Tim (or Wayne and Garth) who have gone to University (Falmouth and Bath Spa respectively). They have been brilliant in serving their time here and we would like to say Thank you and jolly well done to them. We look forward to their return come Christmas! x
2 for 1 - What a Wonderful Weekend!
Well, it was a grand weekend for all on the 2 for 1 August Bank Holiday! We had lots of visitors, both new and old faces were spotted! The whole weekend went very well, and proved to be a great success! The weather was, at best - interesting! But we battled the wind and rain and didn't seem to deter anybody so thankyou dedicated golfers! A Big Thankyou goes to all of the staff who worked extremely hard throughout the whole weekend! Here's to the next Ten Years!

Numbers were high on the cards and we're looking forward to welcoming more
players next year.
The competition consisted of a Pairs Better Ball 18 hole Stableford, with
a 3/4 Handicap Allowance and over five different clubs took part. The weather proved to be a strong contender for the Ladies but they stood firm and battled on through the wind with good scores all round!
We are pleased to announce that we raised over £200 for our chosen charity this year, KGH Children's Ward - through sales of raffle tickets and a putting competition! A very successful day. Below are the scores:

Well it seems this week has been full of talent! Ranging from golf right
through to the arts, Pytchley has been home to it!
First up we would like to congratulate our very own champions; Miles
Clarke, Kelvin Mayers and Will Heyward entered a rather large
competition at The Warwickshire Golf Club. Playing amongst 84 others
(about 27 teams) our boys were 1 point shy of winning. With a total
score of 48 pts, our troop came 2nd, beating other Golf Clubs including
Woburn and Birkdale. Not bad for little Pytchley... Pretty damn good we
say! So a very well done to our boys - we are most proud! Keep
representing and there may be a pint behind the bar for your victorious
return!
Next on our list, we congratulate our Ladies and Seniors - in an
esteemed Pytchley vs Barclaycard event that took place on 30th June, the
Trophy stays at home! For this annual event, an Individual Stableford
over 9 holes was the competition. The Barclaycard team consisted of 8
men and 4 ladies competing with Pytchley's team of 3 men and 9 ladies.
(Here come the girls!) The Team Results were:
Pytchley : 234 points Barclaycard : 217 points
For the men - First Prize went to Paul Bedford, with Second Prize to
Allan Buckby - both of Barclaycard - Well done!
For the Ladies - First Prize went to Vera Carter, Second Prize to Ann
Cooney - both of Pytchley!
Through the grapevine we have heard that our Ladies played particularly
well, so Congratulations on keeping the trophy here! We had great
weather and with the course in tip top condition we had great feedback
from the players.
Good luck to Barclaycard for next year and to the Ladies - keep it up
and Well done!
Now, to the arts.
Many of you probably know of one of our members of staff, Mr Dan Johnson
(who comes most highly recommended)! However, you may not know he has
an incredible talent for art. After graduating from Northampton
University with a Distinction he is soon going to be packing his bags
and heading for The University College of Falmouth! Although we don't
want him to leave, we are very, very proud of him, and invite you to
come and view his work on the weekend of 24th & 25th July. We will
be exhibiting his paintings over this weekend so come on down and find
out a little more about this fine young gentleman. Above is an example
of his work, a sneakpreview if you like, giving an idea of his style and
detail on canvas. If you are interested in buying one of his paintings,
either consult the bar staff or the artist himself, he's a rather
friendly chap!
That about wraps it up for this week, Pytchley is bursting with Pride!
Check back soon for updates on upcoming events, we have the Ladies Open
(details below) Charity Day, which is going to be fantastic and the
Ryder Cup Weekend! Its all very hush hush so you'll have to return to
find out more!
Pytchley Golf Lodge Men's Championship
It's that time of year again! The Men's Championship has finally arrived, so don your competitive caps and join us in the 36 hole battle to be crowned Champion!
The competition took place over the weekend of the 26th & 27th of June 2010. It consisted of 36 holes spread over the weekend with victory going to the player with the lowest gross score (see our competitions page for details!)
Well the weather couldn't have been much better for our Championship this year - although a little too warm for some, it set the weekend off nicely. The golf course was beautifully cut for the competition so tip your caps to our greenkeepers! The first day saw a tough start, with tricky holes and fast greens shaping up interesting scores for the first half of the competition. On the second day we saw much improvement in the scores, as shown below - the competitors were given a little slack with more relaxed play across the afternoon. (Unlike the feelings towards the World Cup! More on that later).
For our winner, Adrian Perkins, he couldn't have played better - with an astonishing lead by the end of the competition, we were all in awe of his game as well as Tony St George's lime green luminous trousers! Quite incredible.
All in all, it was a very good weekend, except for the football. Could we believe it? Not quite, but the atmosphere in the bar has been fantastic during England's games and we would like to thank everyone for their support and patience with the bar staff. Thouroughly enjoyable evenings were had during these games, including those darn vuvuzelas! (yes pirates we mean you!) We will be showing the games right up to the final so join us to see the winners.
A big thankyou and congratulations to everyone who played in the competition - fantastic weekend!

The Kids are back in town!
So we have some FANTASTIC news; after being in Canada since September/October, the kids have finally returned! Jess, Mike and Ollie are now back in the UK.
They should all be returning to the golf lodge once again, although we are to believe it may not be for long! We have heard plans in the pipelines for New Zealand, Australia, Ski and Snowboard Instructing and much more so who knows!
Here are a few snapshots of what they've been getting up to:
We cannot wait for their return, so wish them a safe journey and we'll see them in the bar for celebrations just in time for the World Cup!
Election Swing on the Driving Range
Pytchley Golf Lodge has held its very own, very different poll for the current standing MP's. We have erected 3 rather large close ups of the running candidates for customers to choose (hit) the candidate they most favour (or may not approve of)!
It seems that the media have also heard about our tricks as the Evening Telegraph joined us last week to take photos and place our story in the newspaper. Featuring our very own Judith Shemilt, Will Shemilt and Will Heyward posing with golf clubs and balls in front of the candidates. Apologies to the golfers we kept interrupting on the range to take these photos!
Our candidates have shown to be very popular and all are welcome to join in the fun of either voting for the most or least favourite member up for election!
Who will you choose...
Election is over! Who would have thought we would see conservative/libdems! What we can tell you however, are the results of putting the three candidates head to head on our Driving Range.
Gordon had the most hits and dents, Cameron had the hardest - there were far more holes in his sign and Nick Clegg... well he was left in the middle for the slices and hooks aimed to the left or right of him!
We hope they were a success and all our customers enjoyed the banter, keep an eye out though, there may be more on the way! Britain's Got Talent Finalists maybe...
Look out for goalposts on the range - after all World Cup is fast approaching! Join us in watching it! (See above really!).
BIG TV!!!
At last we have persuaded (bullied) The Management into buying a very large telly so we can watch all of the Golf Competitions, as well as the World Cup football, tennis, cricket and the 2012 Olympics! YIPPPEEE!!!! So come on down and view our amazing box to be enjoyed with a pint!
Golden Ball Winners!
Congratulations to the following four lucky winners of our recent Golden Balls Range Competition. Each one received a £20 digicard. The competition through the weekend proved to be a great success!
Art Exhibition
Local artist and Pytchley Golf Lodge member, John Sirrell recently held a very successful art exhibition of his own work. It was held in the Ironside Bar with a fantastic turnout for his opening night, selling 11 works of art. All pieces were displayed over a week, raising over £350 for the charity we are currently supporting; the children’s unit at KGH. The Pytchley Golf Lodge was very happy to support John, and hope to continue supporting local artists in the future! Below is a few examples of John’s work. If anybody is interested he may be contacted on:
We hope to be updating our news page as often as possible with competition results, seasonal offers and interesting bar gossip!
The course is playing extremely well following a recent application of fertiliser and will soon start to green up after the latest bout of rain! We are proud to announce that we are now officially back on Summer Tees and may we remind all of our customers to repair their divots and rake those bunkers!
News from The Range
Following our recent range survey, we would like to thank heartily everyone that we pestered. Following the feedback we have renewed our 2 piece range balls, are awaiting some top of the range mats and chipping nets are on their way. So lets see you out there!
Our TurfLove boys (those responsible for the range) will soon be cutting the landing area so look out for those stripes in the 'range fairway'!
Over the Easter Bank Holiday we are holding a Golden Balls Competition! If you find a golden ball in your range basket, you can win a DIGICARD worth £20! To claim your prize, come into the bar and prove you've got golden balls!
Now, to those up and coming young golfers, we are really pleased to announce that the Pytchley Panther's Junior Group Golf Tuition will soon be available. Darren & Jim, our resident golf pro's will be teaching these. Contact 01536 512000 for details
