Competition scratch score - 65.

Results: 1st [on countback] Peter Kirk [16] net 64, 2nd - Mike Charter [10] net 64, 3rd - Judy Burdett [27] net 68. There were no 2's recorded. Handicap changes: Mike Charter from 10 to 9, Harry Doherty 14 to 15. Of note - Kelvin Rowlett [20] despite a round of 82 net managed to birdie the par 4 4th hole twice!

Our Handicap League match on 10 May v Oundle at home has been cancelled because they were unable to rustle up a team. It seems this weekend is the Captain's weekend away!!!!

PGL lost 3 1/2 - 4 1/2.

Weekday Medal/ 05/04/08 & 06/04/08

Competition Scratch Score - 65 - Despite the weather conditions a few brave souls competed in this year's first Weekend Medal. The results were as follows:

1st - Tommy Groom [18] net 58
2nd - Mike Charter [10] net 66
3rd - Peter Kirk [16] net 68 on countback

Mike Charter and Peter Kirk shared the 2's pot with birdies on par 3 hole 5. Tommy Groom's handicap was cut from 18 to 16.

 

Weekday Medal / 03/04/08

Competition Scratch Score - 66 - This is the first time we have used the new unified Scratch Score system ie. If there is a mixed competition there will only be one scratch score, there used to be one for Ladies and one for Men.

There were no 2's recorded. There were the following handicap changes - Sue Dawkins from 28 to 24, Tom Houghton from 7 to 8, Peter Kirk from 17 to 16 and Richard Quinney from 22 to 23

Since this was our first handicap qualifying event of the new season we were pleased to see a good turnout with over 35 players entering. On the subject of first's, not only were we using the unified scratch score system for the first time but we used the new mens' tees on par 4 hole 4 and par 4 hole 8. Although the distance had not changed on hole 4, the new tee on the 8th has increased length of the hole by some 30 yards but brought into play a number of trees and other obstacles eg bunkers. It proved quite a challenge!

 

A V B Team - Friendly / 16/03/08

As a run out before the new inter-club match season we ran an A v B Team pairs matchplay competition. The results were as follows 5 A Team -5 B Team:

From Friday, 21 March we will be back on Summer Tees and our first Weekday Medal will be on Thursday, 3 April and first Weekend Medal will be on 5 and 6 April. Unfortunately last years Medal Winners Cup winner David Tipton will be out of action for some time with a knee injury. However we expect to see the likes of Ron Heels, Richard Quinney making an early impact on the weekday competitions and Richard Wright [current club champion] to maintain his winter form.

3rd - Jim Green net 65. Tim Meeks claimed the 2's Pot with a birdie on par 3 5th hole. Troy Anderson's handicap was cut from 23 to 19 !!!, Leigh Cowen's dropped from 25 to 23 and Jim Green's went down to 23 from 24.

Weekend Medal / 03-04/11/07
Results : 1st - Paul Neville net 60, 2nd - Peter Kirk net 67 and 3rd - Mark Brimley net 68. Daniel Slade claimed the 2's Pot with birdies on par 3 hole 7 and par 3 hole 9. Paul Neville's handicap dropped from 15 to 13.

Weekend Stableford / 20-21/10/07
Results : 1st - Peter Kirk with 41 points, 2nd - Troy Anderson with 38 points and 3rd - Don MacLeod with 37 points. There were no changes to players's handicaps. The only 2's recorded were shot by Don MacLeod on par 3 hole 9 and Troy Anderson on par 3 hole 14 straight out of the bunker in to the hole !!

Weekday Stableford / 18/10/07
Results : 1st - Mark Brimley with 41 points, 2nd - Sue Dawkins with 40 points and 3rd - Tony St George with 40 points. The 2's Pot was won by Sue Dawkins with a 2 on the par 3 hole and Ron Heels with a two on par 3 hole 14. Mark Brimley's handicap dropped from 14 to 13 and Tony St George's dropped from 28 to 27.

New Breast Cancer Charity Golf Event for Winter Months/ 15/10/07
Each player can only enter an Event once ie if you played on Wednesday you cannot enter again on Saturday or Sunday.

Scoring - Cards from all three days of an event will be processed to produce the final result for that event - the winner will be awarded 10 points, 2nd place will be awarded 9 points and so on.

The Charity Shield Winner will be the player with the most points after all 7 events and he / she will win £50 worth of vouchers, 2nd place - £30 worth of vouchers and 3rd place £20 worth of vouchers.

The specific rules for each event will be available on the day of that event.

There will be an entry fee of £1.00 for each event over and above any green fees due - this money will go to Breast Cancer. There will also be a 2's pot, half of which will also go to Breast Cancer.

Combined with the Raffle, entry fees and fines for a number of bad shots including going in to a bunker, hedge, ditch and any other hazard [ fines = £51.50 ] we raised over £400!.

Mens Winter League Final / 23/09/07
Finalists - Martin Adcock v Ben Giles. After an exciting game involving both players taking the lead and then losing it, the match was settled on the 19th hole with Ben Giles sinking a 15ft putt for a birdie.

Weekend Medal / 22-23/09/07
Results : 1st - Lindi Blissett net 70, 2nd - Troy Anderson net 71, 3rd - Neil Jacobs net 73. There no 2's recorded. There were no changes to players' handicaps.

Weekday Medal / 20/09/07
Results : 1st - Suzanne Hope net 66, 2nd - Judy Burdett net 67, 3rd - Matt Jeffrey net 68. The only 2 recorded was from Head-Greenkeeper Tom Houghton with a birdie on the par 3 14 hole - he won £90.00. There no changes to players' handicaps.

Customer Announcement / 20/09/07
The Pytchley Golf Lodge is delighted to announce that as from the 1st October 2007, Turfcare Leisure Services Ltd along with Tom Houghton, will be maintaining the Golf Course here at Pytchley. This decision was made following Tom’s recent announcement that he plans to emigrate to New Zealand in the near future.

Turfcare Leisure Services Ltd has an established and excellent record of maintaining golf courses in and around the St Neots area. The Pytchley Golf Lodge very much looks forward to working with Turfcare, and welcomes them aboard!

Weekday Stableford / 05-09/09/07
On 5 September and 8/9 September we held our last two Stableford competitions of the season. At this point it looked as if Troy Anderson was going to be a surefire winner. However William Welsh's 42 points on 5 Sept put him two points ahead of Troy with Mark Brimley [last year's winner] hot on their heels.

In the end a remarkable 43 points from Troy and 40 points from Mark Brimley changed everything. In the end Troy won this year's Stableford Shield with 124 points, 2nd - Mark Brimley with 121 points and 3rd William Welsh with 120 points - exciting stuff !

Results / 05/09/07: 1st - Mark Brimley 42 points, 2nd - on countback William Welsh 42 points, 3rd - Sue Dawkins 38 points. Mark Brimley's handicap changed from 16 to 15 and William Welsh's from 22 to 20. There were no 2's recorded.

Results 8/9 September 2007 : 1st - Troy Anderson 43 points, 2nd - Lindi Blissett 41 points, 3rd - Mark Brimley 40 points. Troy Anderson's handicap changed from 25 to 23, Lindi Blissett's from 29 to 28, Neil Jacobs' from 18 to 19. There were no 2's recorded.

Results : 1st - Mark Brimley 39 points, 2nd - Stewart McLennan 38 points, 3rd - Chris Denton 35 points. With only 2 more Stableford competitions this season it looks as if Troy Anderson's 118 points [best three scores to count] will him this year's Stableford Shield.

Hollingsworth Trophy - v Silverston [away] / 25/08/07
Results : PGL lost 4-1 - Stewart Philp/Craig Savage lost 3 and 1, Richard Wright/Terry Cade lost 4 and 2, Justin Vosper/Mick steventon lost 3 and 1, Matt Jeffrey/Paul Neville won 2 and 1, Ian Wilson/Don Macleod lost 4 and 3.

Senior Championship / 1st Round - 16 August, 2nd Round - 23 August
Gross Results : 1st - Jim Canning gross 164, 2nd - Barry Gregory gross 167, 3rd - Ron Heels gross 179.

After the first round Barry Gregory [gross 80] had a healthy 6 stroke lead over Jim Canning [gross 86] with Jim Ranaghan [gross 87] and Ron Heels [gross 89] following closely behind. However, as last year, Jim Canning shot gross 78 and Barry Gregory was unable to match this with his gross 87.

Net Results : 1st Barry Gregory net 141 on countback over 2nd - Ron Heels net 141, 3rd - Jim Ranaghan net 144.

The 2's Pot which ran over over both rounds was won by Jim Canning with the only 2 of the Championship

Ladies Championship / 1st Round - 16 August, 2nd Round - 23 August
Gross Results : 1st - Mandy Rutter gross 183, 2nd - Judy Burdett gross 198, 3rd - Jane Ashby gross 201 on countback over Liz Talbot.

After the first round Mandy Rutter [gross 90] was leading with 8 strokes over Jane Ashby [gross 98] and following behind was Sam Willis [gross 99] and Judy Burdett [gross 101]. Thus going into the second round Mandy Rutter, save for an absolutely disastrous round, was hot favourite and thus the battle was on for 2nd and 3rd place. In the end Judy Burdett's gross 97 won the day for the 2nd place whilst Jane Ashby's gross 103 allowed her to come third. Unfortunately Sam Willis put in a nil return.

Net Results : 1st - Judy Burdett net 144, 2nd - Liz Talbot net 149, 3rd - Sue Dawkins net 206.

There were no 2's recorded in the Ladies Championship.

Results - Daniel Slade [21] with 41 points, 2nd - Troy Anderson [25] with 37 points and 3rd - Josh Parker [13] with 36 points. There were no 2's recorded. Daniel Slade's handicap has changed from 21 to 20.

With twelve Stableford competitions played and three to go it looks as if Troy Anderson will win this year's Stableford Shield although a few good scores from others close to him could win the day - see attached Stableford Shield listing.

Result : PGL won 21-1 - Team: Craig Savage and Richard Wright won 7 up, Tom Houghton and Matt Jeffrey won 6 up, Don MacLeod and Eddie Leaf won 1 up, David Tipton and Nick Althorpe lost 1 down, Will Heywood and Mark Brimley won 5 up and Mick Steventon and Troy Anderson won 2 up.

Club Championships - 18 holes each day / 30/06/07 - 01/07/07
Conditions : Both days very windy with scattered heavy showers.

This year there were at least 5 or 6 players that could win including Craig Savage [last years winner] Tom Houghton who won in 2001 and 2003, Richard Wright, Justin Vosper, Rob Forbes and Stuart Philp. However the weather proved to be agreat leveller.

For instance Craig Savage who only dropped 5 shots over the whole of last years championship scored 9 on his first hole ie 5 over!!

After the first day Rob Forbes [75] had established a lead of 3 shots over Richard Wright [78] with Justin Vosper and Josh Parker on 79 in third palce. Close behind were Tom Houghton and Craig Savage on 80.

Eventually Richard Wright won with overall 154, with Rob Forbes 2nd with 155 and Justin Vosper and Craig Savage sharing third place on 160.

A Divsion [0-14 handicap] net competion was won by Josh Parker net 136, 2nd Matt Jeffrey net 138 and third Richard Wright net 140.

B Division [15-28 handicap] net competition was won by Mark Brimley net 134, 2nd David Tipton net 137 and 3rd Brian Mellon net net 140.

The 2's pot was shared by Matt Jeffrey - eagle on par 4th hole, Eddie Leaf - eagle on par 2nd hole and Peter Kirk, Tom Houghton, Tony Curchin and Craig Savage all having birdies on par 3's.

Conditions : Drizzle and some sunshine
Results : 1st - Troy Anderson [27] with 44 points (still living on his success after his debut appearance in our Handicap League Team!), 2nd - Richard Quinney [22] with 39 points and 3rd - William Welsh [22] with 38 points - it was a high handicappers day by the looks of it! Nigel Chaplin and Ian Wilson shared the 2's pot with 2's on par 3 hole 9 and par 3 hole 18 respectively. Handicap changes - Troy Anderson from 27 to 25, David Chaplin from 20 to 21 and Nigel Chaplin 13 to 14.

 

Course Development Update / 16/05/07
We are delighted to announce that the proposed course developments for July have been brought forward to commence on MONDAY 14th MAY 07, starting at the 4th hole.

A temporary green will be cut between the two fairway bunkers.

The major part of the construction is expected to take approx 2 weeks, depending upon the weather conditions.

We apologise to all of our customers for any inconvenience caused.

Course Developments for 2007
We are pleased to announce to all our customers the planned course developments for 2007. Although a large amount of soil has already been placed on the left hand side of the upper section of the 6th fairway, the actual works are not scheduled to start until the end of July 2007.

The proposed developments are as follows :

4th Hole – There will be a new competition tee and new sculpting and moulding past the left hand fairway bunker. Around the green two new greenside bunkers will be placed with one on the left and the other on the right. The aim of these developments is to increase the overall difficulty of the hole and thus provide a further challenge to the golfer.

NB – during the construction a temporary green will be cut between the two fairways bunkers and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause

8th Hole – There will be a new competition tee set some yards back from the current competition tee.
